At a wedding, the couple takes care of everything — wine, sparkling, catering, décor, music — and, in almost every case, the water is left to the caterer: an industrial bottle, sometimes a disposable cup, a bureaucratic gesture. Serving fine water is, today, a real differentiator. It costs little in proportion to the whole and communicates a great deal.
Why water matters at a wedding
Guests spend hours at the event and drink more water than wine. The bottle on each table is a constant visual element — and plastic at a carefully planned wedding clashes with everything else. Fine water in glass is a quiet gesture of care, in view the entire time.
Four decisions for the couple
Uniform or plural — a single water throughout the event, or different waters by moment (cocktail hour, dinner, closing)? Sparkling, still or both — the standard is both, with still predominant. Quantity — about 1 litre per guest at a five-to-six-hour event. And who serves — a dedicated waiter, a self-service island, or glasses already set.
By size of the event
At a boutique wedding of up to eighty guests, a still fine water as the standard and a sparkling one as the alternative, always in a glass, resolve it with elegance. Between eighty and two hundred, the logistics call for planning — how many cases, where to keep them chilled, the refill rhythm — and a proportion of around 70% still and 30% sparkling. Above two hundred, it is worth negotiating the volume directly with the supplier and considering a water station: a dedicated bar, with bottles and glasses, whose curatorial care is visible.
Details that matter
The couple's table may feature the favourite water of both, as a personal gesture, and the parents' table a special touch. At the welcome cocktail, chilled water available from the start; after dinner, a permanent island from which guests help themselves freely.
What to avoid
A plastic bottle at any moment, and a disposable cup even outdoors — glass is viable. Serving one fine water and an ordinary one side by side dilutes the gesture: choose one band. And do not let the water disappear from the tables during dinner, which conveys exactly the opposite message to that of care.
